Osnabrück Summer Institute on the Cultural Study of the Law

We are happy to announce the call for applications for the 7th International Osnabrück Summer Institute on the Cultural Study of the Law (OSI) today. It will be held from August 6 to 13, 2017 in Osnabrück, Germany. This year the title of the OSI is “Contentious Claims – Negotiating Ownership in Law and Culture,” a topic that is represented in the workshops that will be held by a diverse international faculty.

We are pleased to welcome Stephen Best at this year’s Summer Institute for the first time, granting the student insights into his work at the intersection of law and the humanities.

Stephen Best is Associate Professor of English at UC-Berkeley. He is the author of The Fugitive’s Properties: Law and the Poetics of Possession (University of Chicago, 2004), a study of slavery, property, and legal hermeneutics in nineteenth-century American literary and legal culture.
