Introducing the OSI 2026 Faculty: Arthur Rose
It is our pleasure to welcome Arthur Rose as a member of the OSI 2026 faculty! Arthur Rose is
Lecturer in the Department of English and Creative Writing at the University of Exeter. His books include Literary Cynics: Borges, Beckett, Coetzee (Bloomsbury, 2017), Asbestos – The Last Modernist Object (Edingburgh, 2022), and, with Fred Cooper and Luna Dolezal, COVID-19 and Shame: Political Emotions and Public Health in the UK (Bloomsbury, 2023). Arthur will convene a workshop with Devin Zuber on Interdisciplinarity.
He is co-editor of the interdisciplinary collections Theories of History (Bloomsbury, 2018), Reading Breath in Literature (Palgrave, 2019), and Understanding Badiou, Understanding Modernism (Bloomsbury, 2024). He also contributed two larger interdisciplinary projects in the health humanities: Life of Breath (2014-2020), led by Jane Macnaughton and Havi Carel, and Shame and Medicine (2021-2026), led by Luna Dolezahl and Matthew Gibson. He is currently writing Shame and the Medical Memoir, a book that links the memoir boom to public defences of medicine by doctor-writers. He also collaborates with local artists and public interest groups.
